A Sprinternship™  is a paid micro-internship designed to launch a generation of diverse tech talent into the tech ecosystem.

Companies host cohorts of 5 “Sprinterns™” for a three-week period during January and/or May. Break Through Tech’s Sprinternship™ program gives diverse undergraduate women and non-binary students who participate a leg up in three key areas where they’ve traditionally lacked a competitive edge:

  • Real-world tech experience that they can put on their resumes
  • Concrete tech accomplishments that they can discuss in an interview
  • A network of people in tech who can offer professional references.

Break Through Tech recruits and prepares students for the Sprinternship™ program, while each Sprinternship host organization curates the Sprinternship™ experience with a project to immerse Sprinterns™ in their workplace culture.

The information you provide in this form will help us match the appropriate Sprintern™ students to your business and prepare them for the experience at your workplace. Both student and industry partner applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. As we have a high level of interest from students each year, we're looking for partners’ commitments as early as possible. The sooner we receive your form, the better we are able to enroll students who meet your desired skill qualifications. Here are a few guidelines for when starting to review this form:

  • Be sure to have the necessary program and budget approvals from your executive sponsor(s) before submitting this form.
  • If you are hosting Sprinterns™ in multiple cities, please submit a new form for every city.
  • If you have any questions, please reach out to your Break Through Tech primary contact for the Sprinternship™ program.

Our organization agrees to:

✔  Pay Sprinterns™ a minimum of $17 per hour for the 3-week period. Break Through Tech has determined this to be a fair pay rate for our students. This budget commitment equals approximately $10k per team of 5 students at minimum. Companies are welcome to pay students more and it’s recommended they align rates with what they pay their interns or junior engineers.

✔  Provide Sprinterns™ an immersive tech talent development experience for three weeks, full-time (35-40 hours per week) excluding any holidays, if observed by your organization.

✔  Design a challenge project that gives Sprinterns™ practical technical experience related to the work of your organization.

✔  Assign at least one supervisor for each Sprintern™ team of 5 students.

✔  Host an onboarding session for your Sprinterns™ to prepare them for the experience at your organization  (e.g., discuss HR onboarding, work schedule, challenge project, useful coding languages, workplace technologies, etc.).

✔  Create a work schedule that allows Sprinterns™ to work on their challenge project in addition to immersion activities that help them explore your organization’s unique culture.

✔  Allow Break Through Tech to name your organization as a participant in the program on our website and other marketing materials (with the use of logos).
✔  Respond to an End-of-Sprinternship™ feedback survey.
